Well, hello . . .

After years of hiding in a closet, my serger has made an appearance.
And it makes me happy.

My friend, Susannah, came over Tuesday with her little guy, J. Our goal: to make some reuseable fabric sandwich bags. I had made a dozen or so last fall. And made it through the year without buying a single box of ziploc-type bags for lunches.

J and Merek played Little People, ate snacks, and thoroughly enjoyed each other's company. Meanwhile, Susannah and I assembly-lined the process and cranked out 12 bags. We used the dragon, owl, and apple fabrics--4 bags from each. We split them and each kept 6 bags.
Before heading home, she mentioned she would like to try to make some type of pouch that would unfold into a type of placemat for the kids to eat on. So after she left, I experimented with some of the fabric and lining still on the table (hence, the bandana pouches in the above photo) and made four squares (11x11) to fold around sandwiches.

I wasn't planning to pull out the serger but decided to do so last-minute. So glad I did! It saved us a lot of time. Now I just need to figure out how to make the finishing threads look nice. :)

Thanks, Susannah, for helping me figure out the pattern, bringing snacks for the boys, delicious muffins to share, and laughing with me about silly things. It was a good morning.

These are way cute! So do they keep the sandwiches fresh as a ziploc would?

What a fun day! So they are pouches, or fold up around the sandwiches?
