November 13--Talent . . . and jumper cables

This morning I had the opportunity to play the organ for our congregational hymns at church. A friend of mine is the organist but was out of town and asked me to sub for her. I am thankful for the talent I have to play the piano. I began lessons in kindergarten and stayed with them through high school (thank you, mom and dad, for paying for all of those lessons). I actually enjoyed practicing the piano and would get up early in the morning to practice before school.

In college, I took an organ class. Even though I do not classify myself as an "organist", I can sub in when necessary.

Playing the piano has given me many opportunities to accompany soloists and groups. It has given me the chance to play fun songs with my kids and teach them how to play. I currently teach piano lessons to 10 students. Over the years I have taught somewhere around 50 students how to play the piano.

It is something that will stick with me for the rest of my life. I am thankful for that.

And tonight, when I went to pick up Miranda and some friends from a church activity, my car battery died. Thankfully, there were a lot of people there and it only took a minute to find one with jumper cables who was happy to help.

It must be so amazing to be able to play a musical instrument...it was always my dream...and I guess now I am getting a bit old to learn.

Very cool :) This Sunday, I played the organ for the first time ever for church. I am confident that I can sub in when needed from now on, too. There will be lots of mistakes, but I can do it without fainting--although my hands did get really sweaty all of a sudden :P

I really like to play the piano, but there is something wonderful about the organ. I am working on getting better.

So cool that you have that talent that you can share with others (and make some money in the process!)

Not fun about the car battery. Lucky that you had help quickly! That doesn't always happen!
