Polka Dot Whimsy January Kit Projects

The Polka Dot Whimsy January Kit City Lights was so FUN to work with! This was my first month playing with one of the PDW kits. Wow--Michelle puts together such a great variety of products! For this first layout, I wanted to scrap this picture of my dad and my nephew. As soon as we got the sneaks for the kit, I knew this picture would go well with the papers. And it was taken in NYC--perfect for the city background paper :)

I hand-cut the big star behind the picture and double-matted the photo to make it stand-out more from the busy background.

The brown polka dot pattern under the vehicle paper is fabric! The punch outs are Cosmo Cricket from like four years ago, but they worked so well! And I loved adding the big sequins (red and brown) for extra shine.

These photos of Merek have been on my "to-scrap" list for awhile, too. Again, perfect for the kit and theme of the papers. I used my "go-to" design of a big circle in the background. I just love circles :)

The receipt page in the kit was a perfect journaling spot!

In addition to layouts, Michelle asks the DT to make a project. The KI Memories calendar grid jumped out at me right away for my project. And Lina, my 9-year-old, just asked me the other day if I  had a calendar for her to use this year. Well, I do now! :)
I matted the calendar grid on the darker orange patterned paper, then placed them inside a 12x12 frame. The numbers are written on the glass with dry-erase ink so she can change them each month.

The big blue flower was premade in our kits. I made the white/blue/yellow flower from some fabric in the kit, and then layered the crocheted flowers with a buttons. The month tags can be changed out by just sliding them in the upper left corner of the frame.

Here are each of the individual month tags. These were a great way to use the fun little doo-dads in the kit.

This bag was sewn from the brown polka dot fabric in the kit (it's on my top layout as well). I attached the bag to the bottom corner of the calendar and it holds all the month tags, plus we'll keep the dry-erase pen in it as well. I added the trim to the top and the butterfly stamp came in our kit, too.

Isn't this such a fun kit? I loved working with it and look forward to what Polka Dot Whimsy has in store for February! Be sure to check out the PDW blog each day this week for inspiration--I'll be posting on Friday :)
