Spring Break 2010

This week is Spring Break for the kids. Hooray! *I* love breaks from school, too :) But no big trips planned for this one. Well, maybe a trip to the grandparents for the weekend, but we'll see.

Monday we headed to Borders. The kids all had gift cards from Nana for their birthdays last year. New books=happy kids. They each picked out 3-5 books. Then since we were only 10 minutes from DH's work we called him and he met us for lunch at Claim Jumper.

Eating at a restaurant with 5 kids can be challenging. This day was no exception. Especially because Merek didn't want to stay in his highchair. But, we did the best we could and endured, and I think didn't bother anyone else too much (I hope).

After we got home and while Merek was napping, the kids and I just chilled. Miranda's practice was cancelled due to hail and rain. She planned a sleepover with her friend. We watched the NCAA championship game--such a great game!! I was cheering for Butler but thought it was OK Duke won since it was a well-played game.

Tuesday the girls headed over to some friends' to play while the boys and I stayed home. I let the boys watch some of their favorite PBS shows (SuperWhy, Dinosaur Train, WordWorld, and Dragon Tales), while I watched Julie&Julia and made some cards. It was quite relaxing. Normally the boys don't get to watch 2 hours of TV--but it's spring break and I knew it would make them (and me) happy :) Merek split his time with me and boys, mostly playing with my makeup bag and carrying it back and forth.

My friends, Paige and Stephanie, came over for lunch with their cutie-patootie babies. I made ham and pea soup (recipe courtesy of BHG latest issue) and broiled some of the leftover rosemary and garlic bread with a bit of butter. It was a delicious lunch. We had a nice conversation, too.

The girls came home and then the neighbors came over for a playdate for the rest of the afternoon. Miranda went with a friend to practice softball. After dinner, the kids enjoyed playing and setting up the family room with chairs, blankets, and books. They listened to their new books on tape (thanks to the Easter bunny) and chilled together. I loved finding the boys on the couch--Krish reading to Bird their new books from Borders.

Wednesday we chilled in the morning and had some friends over (S & G) to play. Miranda's practice in the afternoon was cancelled.

Thursday morning we slept in. DH stayed home later than usual and made me pancakes for breakfast. I was going to take the kids to the Pacific Science Center but Merek woke up with a fever so we scratched that idea. Instead we headed to Bell Square so I could pick up DH's anniversary gift and then came back home. M had a playdate with her friend, Kenna. Since Merek was sick I made dinner for us to enjoy at home--steaks (I rarely make steak, if ever!). I made some Toffee brownies for dessert since DH loves toffee. Lina made a fruit salad to go with dinner (we had green salad and bread as well).

Today (Friday) the kids have friends over to play. M and Avery are making cookies. Lina, Peyton, Connor, Krish, and Bird are playing school. Merek is wandering back and forth between acctivities. I don't know what we'll do this afternoon. We were going to go to my parents for the weekend and visit my sister's family, but snow on the pass and Merek's fever changed our minds.

Speaking of snow--yesterday we woke up to snow on the ground. It hailed 4 times yesterday, too. Crazy! Then this morning it was snowing during breakfast. The pass closed twice yesterday and traction tires are required today. Guess we'll just have to plan another weekend for our visits to family.

It has been a great Spring Break--no major activities, just relaxing and enjoying each other's company.

Have a fabulous weekend! :)
