Slugs are a way of life here in the Pacific Northwest. This morning as the little boys and I went out the door I noticed a slug on our sidewalk. He was a little smushed. Not sure who stepped on him, but the poor thing was still moving a bit. Merek was intrigued and after looking at the slug for a moment proceeded to stomp his foot, barely missing the slug. "Don't step on the slug," I reminded Merek. He likes to squash bugs.
Anyway, later on in the day when we came home from picking up the big kids from school, la babosa was still there, still oozing goo. Poor thing. I felt a little bad for him. And wondered if slugs regenerate like worms. Again, Merek stopped to investigate, and again, stomped his foot--narrowly missing the slug again.
A bit later we headed out the door to take Miranda to soccer practice. The kids were heading out before me. Merek was barefoot. As we walked to the car, Merek was stopped, holding up his left foot. I noticed the slug was gone. Hmmmm . . . had a bird picked him up for snack? Had he made his way to the flower bed? Then I realized why Merek had his foot up--he had stepped on the slug, which was now stuck to the bottom of his foot.
I gently flicked the slug off Merek's foot. It was really oozing some guts now. So, I grabbed a small stick and picked up the slug and put him in the flower bed, to do whatever he will do next. And I cleaned off Merek's foot.
Just a little story to entertain you. And one I didn't want to forget :)
