To all of the men and women who have served and are currently serving our country, THANK YOU!
The kids are off school today. Yesterday I received an email from DD's school saying their are collecting things for Christmas boxes to send to US troops overseas. To celebrate Veteran's Day, the kids and I are going to gather some of the supplies to send in for the boxes.
Last night I was thinking of the family members who have served in our country's military. I cannot imagine the sacrifices they made to serve our country.
The kids had an assembly at school yesterday about Veteran's Day. After I picked them up from school, they were asking me about war. "Why do they have to shoot each other?" "Why can't they just talk to make things work out?"
Last night Lina asked me if a bullet comes through a window, how far will it go in the room? Can they go through the walls?
How thankful I am to live in a peaceful place, where my kids don't have to go to sleep at night with the sounds of gunfire outside, not knowing if they will live through the night.
Again, thank you Veterans, for giving us this peace.

Oh wow, those are some pretty hard questions to answer. I was in basic training when the war in Iraq began. One time when I called home, my niece (9 yrs old at the time) asked me "are you where the bombs are?" It just made me sad that she was worried and had that image in her head. Another time, I was in Ikea with another Soldier (we were in uniform, eating lunch), and this Dad walked up with his two little girls and said thank you to us then turned to his girls and said "These are the people that are overseas fighting for our country." I will never forget that. I thought it was so great that he was "showing" his girls patriotism (don't know if that is the right word- it's the only one coming to my head right now...) So anyhow...your post just made me think of those. I'm glad your girl's school is doing something like that!
