To help the kids remember their blessings, and the lesson, I had them make "blessing quilts". They each listed 4 blessings to put on their quilt. The quilt is to help them remember the special baby that we celebrate at Christmas.
Above is Miranda's quilt. Even the boys in the class enjoyed making them! It is a super simple craft to do with kids of all ages. Below is my example and the directions.5 double-sided patterned papers
white cardstock
base cardstock (I used red--but it doesn't matter)
permanent pen
adhesive (I think glue sticks would be best)
Directions:
1. Cut patterned papers and white cardstock into 2 inch squares. You'll need 5 squares of PP and 4 squares of white CS for each quilt.
2. Cut PP squares in half--corner to corner--to form two triangles. Flip one triangle over and pair with the other triangle to make a square again. Do this for all five PP squares.
3. Cut base cardstock into 6 inch squares.
4. Adhere 1st set of triangles to top corner of base. Then a white square next to it. Then another set of triangles.
5. For the second row, adhere a white square first, then triangles, then another white square.
6. For the bottom row, adhere PP triangles first, then white CS, then PP again.
7. Write blessings in each white square. Add pen stitching.
It took us about 20 minutes to do this (with 10-11 year olds). So with younger kids it may take longer. I let the kids cut their PP squares into triangles but you may want to do that step for younger ones.
Let me know if you do this. I think it would be fun to do as a family activity as well and then you could put all of your blocks together to form a big family blessing quilt :)
Enjoy!
