Boys' First Days of School

The boys both started school this week. Krish's first day was on Tuesday. I walked him into his classroom, we found the cubby for his backpack and his table seat. Then he had a piece of paper to write his name on. He wrote the first five letters of his name and then erased a few and said, "I'll try to write in lowercase." He knows this is something they work on in Kindergarten. After he began writing again, he looked up at me and said, "BYE, Mom!" Guess he was ready to go. . . even though I wasn't ready to let go.

Bird began preschool on Wednesday. He was so excited! He has been asking for over a week when he gets to go to preschool. On Tuesday he must have asked me 10 times, "When do I start preschool?" He was so confident walking up and into the preschool. He took off his backpack and his shoes and went to play. First he headed for the bongo drums, then he checked out the other instruments. He went to the book corner and then headed over to the art tables. I had to wait a few minutes to get his attention so I could say goodbye. When I picked him up afterwards, he said, "Mom, I had a GREAT time today!" His favorite thing he said was playing the guitar. They also got to feed the chickens. And he brought home an owl he had painted, with his handprints for wings, and a sign that said, "Being a friend means . . . SHARING (he wrote "sharing").

While I'm happy my boys are loving school, I'm a little sad to have them gone for 1/2 the day. They've both been home with me for years. It is strange to just have Merek home with me for those 3 hours . . . now if I could just time his naps right I might get something done during that time :)
