Twelve Months

Well, here it is--the last monthly picture with the bear.
And just to refresh your memory, here was the first:

Amazing, how much he has grown in a year. There are SO many things that he is doing now. Almost walking--has taken up to 5 steps at a time. He much prefers crawling though because he is so fast. Teeth--something crazy like 8 teeth in the past six weeks, seriously. This poor child. No wonder he is constantly biting me.

He is mostly eating table foods now. I still give him baby food veggies, but other than that, no baby food. He loves bread, bananas, grapes, cheese, and cheerios (but only with milk--he doesn't like them plain). He loves oatmeal (regular) too. I still give him a couple of bottles of milk each day and am trying to wean him to the sippy cups. But he sure prefers that milk warm :) And he is still a pacifier-guy.

There are a few words that seem intentional: ba-ba (bye bye and bottle), bee boo (peek-a-boo); and then there are the usual baby babblings still going on: mama, dada, nana (which he seems to say a lot when wanting food). A super cute thing he does is wave bye when people are leaving the house and he leans forward to give them a kiss. He will give me a kiss, too, when I ask for one.

When he finds a hair brush, he'll brush his hair. And he loves getting his teeth brushed. When he is hanging out with me in the bathroom while I get ready, he has a great time turning our tub water on and off. He also likes pulling the cotton balls and my makeup bag out of the drawers.

He is a climber. Loves climbing up on stools around the house, rubbermaid tubs, and the stairs. And he is definitely getting better at going down now. We follow along (or rather, lead) and he is making great progress. He has also figured out how to turn around to back off of beds and the couches.

Dancing has become a cute little move of his. Whenever he hears music or we sing, he sways back and forth. Super fun to watch him in the rearview mirror in the car--he moves his shoulders up and down, while swaying back and forth (well, as much as he can strapped into his car seat).

On his birthday, he kept wanting to touch the candle on his cake. He did get a bit of frosting on his fingers and tried it. But then he realized there was sticky stuff on his fingers and didn't like that (see photo below). We tried to get him to dig in but to no avail. He did not want his hands to be sticky. He cried so we took the cake away and gave him just a piece. He didn't really eat much so DH gave him some ice cream--which he loved :)

Thanks for following along for his first year. So glad to have these posts to look back on and see how he has grown.

I've really enjoyed your monthly Merek posts. It doesn't seem like a year has passed though!
I am glad to hear that Blake wasn't the only odd child to not dig into his birthday cake, too! ;)
