Monday Madness

Really? School starts tomorrow? Goodness, where has the summer gone?

We found out the kids' teachers on Friday. We get to "Meet the Teacher" today.

Krish got mail from his teacher on Saturday. He was so excited! She sent a letter from her, one from a student in her class last year, and a puzzle for him to put together with a special message. He also had an "About Me" form to fill out and take back to her today.

This week the Boeing Classic (Senior PGA tour) was in town. We are fortunate to live on the street along the 18th fairway so we can walk up to the clubhouse. We spent some time there both Saturday and Sunday afternoons, watching the leaders finish out their rounds. It came down to a tie at the end of the tournament so a playoff hole was needed. It was fun to watch. Makes me want to golf again.

With school starting, I'm trying to figure out a good breakfast/lunch schedule for the kids. I try to make them a hot breakfast each morning before school. They take lunch from home, too. (School lunch is $3.25. Three kids times $3.25 times 5 days each week=too much).

I'd love to hear some great breakfast and lunch ideas from you, to give us a little variety in the schedule. My kids really aren't too picky of eaters so any suggestions are welcomed!

Hope your day goes well. :)

$3.25!! That's outrageous! I think Gabe's lunch is $1.25 or $1.50. When Gabe makes his own lunch it's pb & honey sandwich, pickles wrapped in lunch meat, or quesadillas with lunchmeat and cheese inside! Have a good first day!

You are so awesome to do a hot breakfast. My kids make their own Eggo waffles in the morning, spread with peanut butter, while they wait for me to get up.

And you know our food issues... so I'm limited on the lunch ideas. S does like pasta with parmesan cheese in a thermos...

$3.25 for kids' lunch??? Ours went up to $2.10 this year and I thought that was crazy.

My kids are creatures of habit, so our lunches don't vary much. During the school year, I make my bread half whole wheat and half white flour because the bread doesn't seem to soak up jelly as fast that way. The girls like PB & J or PB & honey. The boy likes lunch meat and cheese. I do cheese sticks and grapes or dried apricots. I don't do bananas because they get mushy and make everything taste like banana.

I did see a cute idea for keeping apples from going brown. You quarter the apple and cut out the seeds and then put it back together with a rubber band to hold it. The kids liked that.

I have a recipe for stromboli ("pizza-stuffed bread") that I make sometimes and all the kids like that in their lunch.

In a pinch I've made graham crackers & Peanut Butter sandwiches and even flour tortilla PB sandwiches when forgot to make bread. I've made turkey roll-ups, but the kids didn't like the cream cheese (which I thought was the best part) so I have to make them with just the tortilla, meat, and cheese.

leftover pizza makes a great lunch if they don't mind eating it cold.

Sometimes they like tuna and pickles--I like to make the tuna sandwiches the night before and freeze them. They are thawed just about right by lunch time and still cold :)

Sometimes I make cookies or mini pumpkin muffins. The problem with cookies is that we (I) eat them up so quickly. Very rarely we have a piece of candy or cheese crackers (the whole point being that I think homemade lunch is not just cheaper but also healthier than processed food school lunch)
